2022 Dirt Bike Magazine Nevada

The Big Show

By Mike Webb @Dirt Bike Magazine

For many of us, our racing days were all-consuming. We lived for that rush, that surge of adrenaline, that competitive drive. But, time tames us. We still want the rush, though tempered. We still yearn for the adrenaline, but in lower doses, and that competitive streak is now mainly focused on rides with our buddies. My motorcycle world these days is pure off-road. My bike is absolutely tailored to it. My off road playground is an oasis in the high desert, and my compadres are a tight-knit group who share the same
passion. We rarely stray too far from our dirt Disneyland, but we do attend one annual event that keeps us coming back-the Nevada 200.

This is one of those cool industry events that has the perfect ingredients for my band of dirt fanatics-a remote destination, technical and fast trails, tons of seat time, great organization, and a bunch of core off-road pilots who think like us. Started in 1985 by legendary desert racer Scot Harden and the equally legendary racer and promoter Casey Folks as an invitational event, this annual trail ride now has over 180 participants tackling the rugged eastern Nevada mountains. The three-day event runs super smooth, with Scot and his wife Christy and Baja hero Jack Johnson and the crew well- schooled in keeping things flowing. With a group breakfast each day, a superb catered lunch on day two on the Nevada/Utah border, and a BBQ and awards banquet, as well as an Easter egg hunt thrown in, there’s no lag time.
